Cement Council of Texas Website on laptop, mobile phone, and tablet
By: Jan R. Prusinski, P.E.
The Cement Council of Texas has redesigned it's website for 2017.  You can still find us at www.cementx.org but the site is now is easier to read and navigate, as well as being mobile and tablet friendly.  We want to make this site better for you, the building professional, and make it your Texas resource for news, knowledge and events on concrete and cement pavements, infrastructure, and construction. We're celebrating by giving away valuable publications on concrete pavement and stabilized bases/subgrades for subscribers to our email updates.  And you'll also be registered for a May 1st drawing for even more valuable publications from the American Concrete Institute and the Portland Cement Association.

A Focus on Pavements

TxDOT Roller Compacted Concrete US 83 LeakeyRoller-compacted concrete being placed on TxDOT project, US 83 in Leakey
Our goal is for www.cementx.org to be your go-to online source in Texas for cement and concrete technologies, particularly concrete pavements, cement-treated bases and cement-stabilized subgrades.   We will continuously post, expand and improve content, particularly in the following areas:
  • Continuously reinforced concrete pavement
  • Jointed concrete pavement (both reinforced and unreinforced)
  • Roller-compacted concrete pavement
  • Soil and subgrade stabilization with cement-modified soil
  • Cement-treated base
  • Full-depth reclamation of asphalt with cement (as a base for a new asphalt or concrete surface)
  • Concrete overlays
  • Pervious concrete pavement
We will address design, construction and maintenance as key topic areas.  Also we'll cover related issues such as pavement costs, both initial and life cycle; materials; specification and quality control/assurance; and emerging technologies/R&D.

Who Will Benefit?

Mobile and laptop user
We are targeting our website for decisionmakers and stakeholders involved in pavement design, construction and maintenance.  This decisionmaker might be a geotechnical engineer developing a pavement design recommendation.  Or a Civil engineer trying to choose a low-cost, heavy-duty pavement for an industrial site.  It could be an architect requiring a reflective pavement to help with LEED certification.  Or a developer seeking ways to build residential pavements that won't degrade during the construction and warranty periods.  Or it could be one of the numerous Texas public road agencies that build and reconstruct pavements within tight budget constraints, and then must maintain them for decades.

Additionally, today's engineering, architecture, and construction technology students in Texas need a central resource to keep them current on today's and future pavement technologies.  We hope www.cementx.org is this place.

How Will I Benefit?

What does the website offer to engineering and construction professionals?   In short, it provides an efficient way to continuously upgrade your knowledge about cement, concrete pavements and infrastructure.  You will become a more valued professional to your organization and clients. You will know and understand the current state-of practice and be aware of key emerging trends, rather than relying on outdated technology, design methods and specifications.  The result will be lower project costs, faster construction and enhanced performance for your clients and your organization.

Our website, www.cementx.org, will provide several avenues to enhance your knowledge:
  • The Cementx Pavement Blog will leverage the vast pavement experience of our staff engineers, providing best practice recommendations, informative critiques, and practical pavement-related intelligence.
  • The Calendar & Events section will list Cement Council of Texas events (such as seminars and conferences); industry events in which CCT participates (a trade show, or society presentation); and relevant Texas or U.S. association or agency events that may be of interest to the building and pavement community.
  • The News section will provide a curated summary of news and current industry articles from numerous sources related to cement, concrete, pavements and infrastructure.
  • TheProjects section will publish a monthly online case study of a key Texas project.
  • The About section will allow www.cementx.org users to quickly reach CCT staff or one of our Texas portland cement producer members (through direct contact or an online request).

How Can I Connect?

We all have our favorite ways to stay current, if a website interests us.  If you want to keep up with our frequently added additions and posts you'll have several ways:
  • If you are a social media fan, we are initiating pages in  LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter, where we'll post updates regularly (and include "follow" on various pages).
  • You can share content from the Blog, News and Projects areas with colleagues through social "share" buttons (again, LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter) that will appear on individual postings.
  • Our Cementx Pavement Blog, News, and Projects postings can be monitored through an RSS feed.   Just right click on the "RSS Feed" icon on the left sidebar of the relevant page, "copy link address," then paste it into an RSS feed program.  RSS feeds consilidate numerous sources into a single area easily accessible from your laptop browser or mobile device.  Feedly is my favorite, but there are many others to choose from.
  • If you prefer receiving an email update, we'd love for you to subscribe to our email updates (use this link to register, and get a free publication).  We promise we won't bug you too much, usually once or twice per month on average, where we'll summarize/link recent postings.
  • Or, if you just like to trudge through websites, you can always check the www.cementx.org home page periodically.  We'll spotlight important items, and have listings of recent blog postings, news items, and upcoming events.

Keep in Touch

We sincerely hope you will find www.cementx.org of value.  We want to build our community, and invite you to leave comments in postings, or contact us directly with your thoughts or questions.   And we hope you take advantage of our free giveaways by registering!

    PURPOSE

The Cementx Pavement Blog seeks to make pavement owners, engineers and contractors smarter about selecting, designing, constructing and maintaining pavements. New blog postings began February 1, 2017; however, we carried over pavement-related blog postings from our older blog, the "Texas Cement and Concrete Blog," which ran until December 2016.
