Is your knowledge up to date on how to design, construct and maintain concrete pavements? Do you know current best practices for stabilizing base materials and soils with cement? Have you considered roller-compacted concrete for a street or industrial site, but don't know how to design or specify it? Are you giving your clients--public agencies, facility owners, the traveling public--the best performing pavements at the lowest cost? If these or similar questions are on your mind, then the Cementx Pavement Blog is for you. Also, you can register for updates and a free giveaway.
The Cementx Pavement Blog blog seeks to make pavement owners, engineers and builders smarter about selecting, designing, constructing and maintaining pavements. We will strive to provide practical state-of-practice and -art information, guidance, and critiques on a wide range of pavement options. These will include:
WHY IS A BLOG NEEDED?
Why are we taking on this challenge?
Well, after examining the "blogosphere," we've found that there are no frequently-updated, informative, practical blogs or websites that keep the pavement professional knowledgeable about the many aspects of concrete pavement, and soil/base stabilization with cement. Yes, there are many excellent sites that provide fundamental references and tools (e.g. American Concrete Institute, Portland Cement Association, American Concrete Pavement Association). But these sources don't publish ongoing tips, tools, trends and best practices on a monthly or even weekly basis. And a professional to keep up with so many disparate sources of information is burdensome. A blog that serves as a hub for disseminating new and constantly changing pavement technology relevant in Texas (and the U.S.) would be key to keeping your professional pavement insight finely-tuned.
We also know that for many engineering and construction professionals, pavement design/construction may not have been a principal focus of their education. If they have attended pavement classes, it often has been years since they have updated their knowledge. The blog will serve as a way to become and stay proficient at pavement design and construction.
Also, our professional staff has a lot of experience in these technologies. Each of us has at least 25 years' experience--some many more--in design and construction, most of it in pavements. Our organization's mission is to provide service to the design and construction industry, and promote the appropriate and effective use of concrete and cement-based products, particularly pavements. The Cement Council of Texas does this through seminars, conferences, presentations, trade shows, and one-on-one interactions. We do this at little or no cost to the user, as our organization is funded by portland cement manufacturers who ship cement within Texas. The Cementx Pavement Blog will allow us to leverage our experience with a wider audience, on a 24/7 basis.
Finally, the internet, and particularly social media, are the way many younger (and increasingly older) professionals prefer to stay in touch not only with friends and colleagues, but also with their professional interests. We want to ensure that this avenue of communication stays open for those who wish to use it (follow us on LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter).
We will continue to provide the traditional educational and technical services we have always performed. In fact our blog and redesigned website will hopefully enhance communication on these fronts. Ultimately, we really want to provide the building professionals and owners in Texas a vehicle for improving their products (highways, streets, parking lots, airfields, industrial pavements) for their customers, whoever they may be.
HOW WILL YOU BENEFIT?
What can you expect from the Cementx Pavement Blog? There are several things:
Start benefiting now by receiving a valuable professional pavement publication; just register for email updates. Also, you'll have a chance to win a copy of the Portland Cement Association's "Design and Control of Concrete Mixtures" and the American Concrete Institute's "Manual of Concrete Practice." April 30, 2017 is the deadline!
The Cementx Pavement Blog seeks to make pavement owners, engineers and contractors smarter about selecting, designing, constructing and maintaining pavements. New blog postings began February 1, 2017; however, we carried over pavement-related blog postings from our older blog, the "Texas Cement and Concrete Blog," which ran until December 2016.
